Yoga therapy is an evidence-based therapy underpinned by Neurological and Psychological science, which helps support recovery from depression, anxiety, trauma and chronic pain.
The therapeutic use of yoga (breath work, postures, meditation and yoga philosophy) works on a deep level to support greater awareness of how we experience and hold stress arising from intense emotional experiences in our bodies, as well as our minds. This can affect and resonate in every aspect of our lives including our physical and mental health, our energy, our identity and self-image, our communication skills, confidence, self- esteem and the relationships we have with ourselves and others.
Yoga therapy skills for mental health is run over two workshops. This is intended to allow time for exploration of breath and body work, which can provide sustainable strategies for your recovery, health and wellbeing.
You do not have to share, talk or disclose anything about yourself in the sessions. You may find it helpful to attend the course with a friend or someone who provides you with support. Two minds can sometimes be better than one, particularly in times of difficulty, or crisis when it may feel hard to recall the work you have done in the workshops.
We will be look at some of the many different ways and styles of practising yoga breathwork and postures, and their application for anxiety and, depression. This will include both dynamic, Yin and Restorative aspects of practice along with guided Yoga Nidra (Non Sleep Deep Rest) and an introduction to meditation and mindfulness practices which can be easily embedded into everyday life and routines.
It may be helpful to bring along pen and paper (journaling may be useful) so you can make a note or image of anything which resonates and feels helpful for you.
The workshops are spaced with a few weeks between to allow time for you to apply the strategies you learn in the classes in your everyday life. It is our intention to make the classes as inclusive and welcoming as possible. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you want any more information which is helpful to your specific situation.
